Strut Don't Stress:How to be Confident in Everything You Wear

Updated: Feb 7, 2019

It's no secret that we all feel a little less than attractive every now and then. There are those days when we wake up in the morning and don't feel like getting dressed at all. Other days when we we get dressed it ends up being all wrong and we hate the result. The day just ends up going from bad to worse and it messes up our mood the whole day. We hate how we look so there is no point in feeling good. I'm here to tell you there is a way out of the funk. There is a method to the madness that is getting dressed. Everyday should be a day that you can't wait to get dressed and I'm telling you five ways to do so.

Style over Fashion

You can't love what you wear if you're not starting with a good foundation. In the age of fast fashion it's hard to grasp your own individuality when everyone is telling you what to buy. Don't get me wrong I love a few trendy pieces here and there, but if you don't have a sense of what you truly like having; those clothes are not going to work for you. I'm sure you hear all the time that having a sense of personal style is important. The people that are saying this couldn't be more right.

Personal style is having an idea of what truly defines you and makes you feel like your best self. It's what people will look at and separate you from everyone else. Any woman or man who has been seen as a style icon has had something that they were known for. Audrey Hepburn had her cropped pants and ballet flats that made her style uniquely her. Madonna had her bold makeup and even bolder accessories, and Kim Kardashian has her bodycon dresses. All these women had one signature item that defined their personality and their look. Being truly confident happens when you are comfortable. The point is everyone can find what works best for them with a little work, but that's for another topic.

Self-Love and Self-Control

Let's get real for a second. You won't look good or even feel good in anything if you are not happy in your own body. We wouldn't be human if we didn't tear ourselves down every once in a while. Sometimes that self-hatred happens when we judge our own appearances. There is always going to be something we don't like about ourselves, but that can change with a little adjustment in attitude.

The great thing about fashion is that you can use it to transform yourself in a way that is attractive if you know the right tricks. The clothes we wear are meant to make us feel as good on the outside as we should feel on the inside. Self-love is all about accepting your imperfections and seeing past them. Only then will you be able to embrace fashion.

Fit and Flaunt

A garment that fits well will always give you comfort. The size of your clothes is something you should never focus on, because at the end of the day they are just numbers. When something fits right, whether it's a size four or a fourteen, it ends up looking the same and it doesn't matter to anyone but you. We all have different body types and shapes so embrace the one you have. The goal is to wear the clothes and not have them wear you.

Plan, Plan, Plan and Have Fun

Think back to when you were younger and how you loved to play dress up. The same feeling should stay true even as an adult. Getting dressed is an experience and a way to connect with ourselves. Every good thing in life takes planning and that includes what you decide to put on your body. My advice to you is to plan some time to connect with the clothes in your closet. I always take a day out of the week to plan and create outfits for that week. When you do this you discover your clothes and how to put them together.

Spend time on Yourself

We can all benefit from a little extra time to ourselves everyday. The best time to take for yourself is in the morning when you get dressed. Our day to day lives are hard enough without the added stress of not liking what we see in the mirror. An extra thirty minutes a day is all you need to make sure your makeup is just right or to make sure you don't forget your accessories. Sure it takes discipline and a little control, but in the long run you'll thank yourself for it.
